Tips on getting a job
Your CV (curriculum vitae) is essential when you apply for a job.
Understand the job description. Read what the employer wants from an employee. Can you meet that requirement?
If you have the right qualifications, experience etc. then don't be negative about getting the job. Don't just assume that you are not good enough and that someone else will get it.
When filling in the application form you must think carefully about the job requirement and make sure that you really do fill in the application form accurately.
At the interview your appearance and manner will tell the interviewer a lot about you. Be appropriately dressed. Be confident! Don't just sit quietly looking as though you don't want to be there! Be enthusiastic about the job.
Ask questions about the job and the working conditions. You must think of these beforehand.
Don't lie or exaggerate about anything on the application form or during the interview.
Arrive for the interview on time. So you should get to the location of the interview early to give you time to relax. If you get there late or have problems travelling then you are not in a good state of mind for an interview.
Know about the company you want to work for. Know about any recent news about them. Look at their website. If you know someone who currently works there then speak to them.
Make sure you know how you are going to explain time gaps on your CV.
Practice makes perfect. Go to interviews even though you may not be interested in the job.
Work out the potential questions that you may be asked. Be prepared to answer them.
Ensure you have good and relevant references ready. Are the referees available to be contacted. And check that they are prepared to be be positive with their references!
