The cost of having a car
The latest figures from the AA’s benchmark British Insurance Premium Index, which has been tracking industry-wide car and home insurance premiums since 1994, shows that over the three months ending June 2008 the cost of car insurance premiums rose by 7.5 per cent to an average of £724.28. Drivers can now expect to pay £486 for their annual comprehensive cover which is a rise of £39 since this time last year.
Car insurance is a major cost these days. Especially if the driver is under 21 or has had driving convictions or points on their licence. It really is worth you shopping around for the best quotes. In particular don't just stay with your existing insurance company when your policy is due to be renewed. They might have been good value a year ago but they might be very expensive now! Even building up a no-claims bonus with one insurer may not be cheaper than shopping around.
driving without insurance?
Take note that many road side cameras and most police car cameras now scan all car number plates. It takes seconds for the registration number to be processed by computers.
With direct links to a car insurance database and a road tax database and a driving license database, the computer immediately flags anyone driving without the appropriate documents!
Please note that you no longer have 7 days to produce car tax details.
Cars without the valid documents will be seized and impounded. It costs hundreds of pounds to get the cars back!
